I personally don't have a problem with eating meat, but I do care about animal welfare and their living conditions and hence why I choose free range poultry/meat at every opportunity. When I buy meat I pay more for it, making sure it is organic, free range and grass fed. It's expensive so we only have it once a week. The same goes for chicken. Today, for example in the supermarket seeing all those non organic chickens a shedder ran through me just trying to imagine what those poor animals were pumped full of, not to mention their miserable caged lives. People are mostly oblivious to what'll in the food they eat, then we wonder why the incidence of cancer , candida and other autoimmune diseases are on the rise. I think if everyone gave some thought to what they ate, and bought better quality food like free range organic, less often the whole planet would benefit. I guess this is just a romantic notion because big business would rather have us get sick and die than not make a profit...Edwinahttp://mymezzaluna.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6009666154214463068.post-15498296569097273542012-09-02T11:27:43.213+04:002012-09-02T11:27:43.213+04:00Good job. One note about plants having life too- when you eat fruits and vegetables you dont kill the plant. You simply pluck the fruits and veggies, which the plant would eventually shed anyway in order for it to grow and regenerate. Which is why jains dont eat root vegetables because Once you pluck a plant of its root eg potatoes, onions, beets etc, thats killing the plant. So in most cases you are not harming the plants be eating vegetarian. I was a pescefarian for 9 years before finally giving it up too. The fishing industry is not very different from meat industry. Although I'm not a vegetarian, my children are now on a gluten free and dairy free diet, and I'm trying to avoid heavily processed items, particularly sugar. It's done wonders for my palate, and opened my eyes to ingredients I would previously have overlooked. Bravo for making a commitment that matters to you. While I am not a vegetarian but I do understand and appreciate the importance of maintaining a healthy body. I've thought of trying out vegetarianism many times, and who knows, maybe it's about time I gave it a shot as well! Loved the essay :)Tasmeeahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14299876074393460429noreply@blogger.com
